Course Learning Objectives:

Explain the history and basic principles of Magnetic Particle Testing

Describe the capabilities of Magnetic Particle Testing, and how they are used

Recognize the different types of discontinuities found in magnetic particle testing and describe how a magnetic field affects them

Identify the different types of magnetic fields generated in magnetic particle testing and the equipment to create them

Describe how alternating and direct current can both be applied for demagnetization

Determine the appropriate equipment to be used for a magnetic particle inspection based on different inspection areas

Differentiate different types of discontinuities and Explain how they are formed

Explain how different aspects of magnetic field theory can affect a magnetic particle inspection

Identify flux fields generated by different types of current and Explain how they are leveraged in a magnetic particle inspection

Demonstrate how to perform a magnetic particle inspection using appropriate materials

Apply a magnetic field through each method of magnetization

Apply demagnetization through multiple means and Verify the magnetic field has been removed

List the different types of equipment used and Identify which method is best used with each

Identify the different types of discontinuities found during magnetic particle inspections

Contrast indications found in a magnetic particle inspection against several known defect standards

Identify factors that could negatively affect a magnetic particle inspection and Demonstrate mitigation techniques against them

Discriminate between relevant and non-relevant indications

Modulate the amount of current used in a magnetic particle inspection and Explain why the direction of the current is important
